Very nice, after a slow start Abutilons seem to be doing well this year! :o)

Thanks chaps!
This one is cosseted in the conservatory over the winter PA, although this year it'll be in the garage. But the hardy Abutilon (Suntense) only managed two flowers all summer!

I have a similar one Meanie it replaced one I lost the previous winter , it has flowered all summer long and like yours is still in flower ,I cover it with a couple of canes and some fleece , it survived last year it remains to be seen if that's sufficient coverage for a very bad winter ...

Last year wasn't a very bad winter!!??
Having kept it in a pot it's still small enough to come in this year, but I'll pop it in the ground next spring.

Meanie:

I'm surprised this Abutilon isn't hardy in your climate!

8 Nov, 2011

I'm sure that it would be in our mild winters - just that we cannot guarantee mild winters.

Meanie:

Yes, I guess you're right.

I used to have Kentish Belle in my old garden in Dundee. It was hardy through about 5 winters but it never got moving before June and didn't flower until September. I loved it though! :))

Karensusan63:

Many Abutilon hybrids don't bloom in summer here in San Diego, CA (it's too hot)...they usually start to bloom in late September through winter into early spring.

That would be lovely Delonix!

That's the other thing that holds me back from planting it out I think Karen - as it is it'll bloom for nine or ten months a year.

8 Nov, 2011

Yes, I agree. You have the better way of keeping it Meanie!

Keeps it small though............

Small is often beautiful! ;)

It's certainly productive in this instance!
