I love the outdoors and after convincing my partner that we could grow our own vegetables, last year he helped me build a vegetable garden – it was my first attempt and we had quite a good harvest considering it was all late going into the ground! We did have quite a few veg that bolted – have no idea why unless it was something in the soil that we bought! And I went slightly over the top with the tomato plants but hey, we like soup and made jars of pasta sauce!

This year I am more organised, however no more knowledgable! My seeds are growing in a little plastic greenhouse and some seeds are already sprouting. I also planted some directly into the ground (as per the instructions on the packet!) They are poking their heads through the soil too! It’s very exciting! :D
My garden is like a worm fest – big fat happy worms! I want my garden to be organic so I’m intending to plant companion plants – top tips greatly appreciated!

I have planted smaller rows this year, as I want to get as much as possible on rotation, but I thought it might be fun to write a blog of “the ’do’s and don’ts’ of a Amateur gardener!” My in-laws bought me a range of ‘mini veg’ and I have an assortment of salad leaves, a herb garden and have today planted early potatoes in a large container and a row of onion sets.

I love photography and cooking so thought this would be a good way to hopefully make new friends and link my hobbies together!

Thank you for reading! Happy Easter! :D

Hello Pita, I recognise the signs of a life long habit as it is how I stared. The first couple of years I grew far to much of everything - but I made some great swaps etc.

there is nothing compares with the taste of something you have nurtured and grown yourself.
Happy growing :)

Welcome from me too and good lack with your vegetables. To my poor knowledge, bolting is usually a result of early sowing and a changeable weather

I just re-read your blog and the bit about the "big fat happy worms" and smiled to think how a little feathered friend of mine would like your garden. Our neighbour keeps a large and very unruly gang of ducks and geese, and there's one who's learnt that theres a little gap under our fence that she can squeeze through, and she spends her day in our garden. If I am digging, she stays close by me, darting in to catch the worms, and her eyesight must be incredible. She is my constant gardening companion, ignoring the cats, who come to watch us. I'm not entirely happy about the wholesale worm catching, but I don't discourage her, a) because she's a sweet little thing, and b) because when she's not eating our worms, she's a fantastic way of getting rid of snails (for some reason we scarcely see slugs any more) and rushes round the rainy garden, hoovering them up in a happy feeding frenzy. The day I catch her snapping the tops off my lettuces, however, the gap in the fence gets mended.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all your support and lovely comments - what a very nice bunch of 'gardening friends' you are!
I'll be sure to take photos as my worm fest garden matures and will try and think of other recipes apart from tomato soup and pasta sauces if I get too many tomatoes again! (hee hee)

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter!

Love Pita xxx

Trouble is, Pita, when there's a glut of tomatoes in the garden, it's MUCH too hot to want to stand cooking in a kitchen.......Happy Easter to you, too.
