What is it?

What is it?

Looks like something has dirted on the sedum..But it is so small, and it's not bird droppings. What did it?

Poor little caterpillar. It would have turned into a beautiful butterfly or moth.

I've found things like this in the same plants the aphids like. I'm just removing it all. Mine are a little hard like shells. I've never had bugs like this year and I'm removing anything strange. The ones like this cling to the leaves and are harder to remove.

Once you have found one they become easier to locate, they will often bury themselves once they have had there fill in the soil close by, where they turn into a larvae.
