I don't think it can be a Jackmanii. Angie - they flower a lot later.

Anyway, it's very pretty. :-)

ang had a pic in october spritz of the same name could it flower twice a year?

It would flower on the old wood if you did not prune it. It seems too pink to be 'Jackmanii Superba' alright, but I don't know what else it might be.

My 'Jackmanii' flowers around August, and carries on into the autumn, Sandra. so I am puzzled. No, just once.

Sorry to cause such a puzzle this was another of my £1.50 not named jobbies from my local QD stores, it does flower twice, same size and form flower. and yes it has been pruned after it finished flowering in the autumn, and it is very fast growing so it is flowering on new growth at the moment, to be honest i can't remeber if i pruned it after it's first set of flowers last year, i don't think i did. so i would guess that it is flowering on new growth and old. Jackmanii was the closest i have been able to find, which i thought did flower twice? if not Jackmanii, would love to know what if anyone reconises it. oh and Spritz you know we were talking the other day about clematis that flower twice a year but differently, well i have one that has both double and single flowers on it at the same time.... check out my next two pic's.....

did you see the single one too? i swear they are on the same plant at the same time...and i just looked in my garden file and it flowered all single blooms Aug-Sept last year, but the listed flowering time is now? i have another variety that also does this it's a deep purple one, that has double flowers that are a deep violet colour, then later in the season it has light coloured single flowers...apprently, like the Pillu it did'nt go in until last summer, so this will be its first full year, but it looks like it is getting ready to go now... have you not seen this before Spritz? i may just do a blog on this subject as i am wondering if it has anthing to do with pruning?

27 May, 2009

Nope - don't worry, that's what the doubles do. They are in group 2 for pruning, then they flower double, then again in late summer but single! 'Vyvyan Pennell 'does this. I have no idea why Piilu (sp) has decided to produce a single bloom now.

i think Vyvyan Pennell may be the other one that i have...is it purple?

Yes - I posted a photo this week - the flowers are so big this year I couldn't get the whole of it in one photo!!! lol.
