Hi Unicornjan - yes the colours in this part of the Parklands are incredible considering Brisbane has been suffering drought for many years with years of tight water restrictions.

Louis - they are great colours aren't they? That red triangular shape and the orange one are both huge clumps of coleus - I was fascinated to see that. I've never seen coleus used as hedging like this before, but it certainly works.

I like coleus, especially the variety Kong. That's the one I usually get, because they are so big. If you like coleus Bernieh, go for Kong.

Benieh:

Wonderful photo! I like Coleus as a hedge, I've seen it used like this here...it is very impressive.

Louis, I agree with you the Coleus 'Kong' is a very large-leafed variety...however, it only lives 2 years max here then dies. The other varieties will live at least 4 years in the ground...until the terminites attack the woody stems.

Delonix these beautiful coleus hedges are dug up and replaced every 3 years apparently. You can probably notice at the right side of the photo there's a patch that was being planted when I was visiting.

Bernieh:

Yes, now that you mention it, I do notice it.

Yes, 3 or 4 years is about the life span of Coleus...after that they get attacked by to many bugs (mainly termites).
