I think its dryopteris filix-mas, the male fern, there are loads of different varieties, these are at the front of the house where it is very shaded but we put lots of leaf mold on every year and it spreads quickly

Yes! Except if you eat them at the wrong time they can be poisonous!

cant get my kids to eat anything green so i dont expect it will be a problem in our household
