Ice skating anyone ?

23 Jan, 2009

oooh.....That must be really cold over there........

23 Jan, 2009

Crikey......it looks amazing Jerrie.....and sooooo cccold!

23 Jan, 2009

~whenwill it thaw?Is it safe to walk/skate on?

23 Jan, 2009

I'd be doing alot more ice crawling than ice skating....lol. Bones don't get broken that often when you are in constant contact with the ice...lol.
Arlene, our temperatures sway back and forth to the extremes so fast here that it's really not safe to get out on it. We had a high of 25 degrees F here for four days and today the temps have gone in the opposite direction, and it will get up to 60 degrees F for the next 2 days, so it makes for unstable ice.

~mm~I was thinking it might not be very safe~it may only be the top layer frozen with water underneath~roll on spring~it is getting lighter though!

23 Jan, 2009

Thank goodness for the longer days Arlene, just the thought of spring gets my heart racing...lol

Our frozen lakes stay frozen for months. Around here very strange people do weird things like sit in the middle of the lake next to a hole they chop in the ice and try and catch fish.!!! Very strange behaviour as far as I'm concerned. lol

24 Jan, 2009

Gilli I love to fish too, but I'm with you,... lol. The difference is, I only 'Like' to fish, definitely have to draw the line somewhere and that sounds like the perfect place to start..lol. I wouldn't last three minutes outside on a damp, cold lake....gees,...I'm tensing up just thinking about it !

Haahahahah, Flcrazy!! My dad used to make a little house that he and my brothers would pull out onto the lake (Muskoka) They would chop a hole in the ice and take a little camp stove with them to heat the hut and boil water for tea!...(and other beverages) and they'd spend the whole afternoon out on the lake in extreme subzero temps...and come home with fish for dinner!(If the wind was in the right direction!) I was remembering the cold senseless toes inside my boots...and picturing you there on the bench with your line in the water! You'd LIKE that too, right? (Nope!) LOL....!

24 Jan, 2009

Lori! I thought you had changed your pic to a dog - now you are a statue! LOL..

WHY would people want to sit on ice and get frozen? I most certainly wouldn't!

24 Jan, 2009

Lori, At least they had the foresight to have a hut with heat in it to protect them from the worst of the cold. I might be willing to try that for ....,oh let's say, 15 minutes or so anyway...lol.
I agree with Spritzhenry, I think I can resist the urge and wait till spring to go fishing..., I'm afraid the only thing I would catch would be a cold...lol

24 Jan, 2009

I tried ice fishing once Flc and Lori.....that was quite enough. With no hut it is colder and more uncomfortable but at least you can look around at the trees etc. In a hut its warmer but even more boring with nothing to look at and your toes still freeze even in heavy snow boots. I just can't see the attraction myself.....much rather be sitting in front of a nice crackling fire inside with my feet up and a nice hot drink. :o)

Amen Gilli....lol..! I'm with you Lady, 100%....;-). Men don't have to worry about freezing their a** off, most men don't have one in the first place...lol

24 Jan, 2009

Well I certainly have one Flc....I always get accused of talking through mine LOL

24 Jan, 2009

24 Jan, 2009

25 Jan, 2009

25 Jan, 2009

I like to buy my fish from the supermarket !!!!

26 Jan, 2009

you have a point there DD. Fishing enthusiasts call it sport! Flcrazy ...I like that strategy...hmm... they're having specials on laptops just now!

26 Jan, 2009

It was a nice thought wasn't it. But I was only dreaming out loud Lori, I could only hope to be that lucky...lol.

26 Jan, 2009

Out here they'll drag a big hut out on the lake with thier truck, more a beer party than anything in there with the heat. Many pics of half sunk vehicles in the paper each winter. They never learn. lol. Your frozen lake reminds me of home, we used to get to skate when the water froze over like this. What a nice memory.

27 Jan, 2009

LOL... GT, now that would be a pic I'd LOVE to see...;-) Never tried Ice skating , I knew I'd spend more time on my backside than on my feet, it's too hard to teach an old dog new tricks, so I'll just stay on solid ground, thank you...LOL

27 Jan, 2009

I'll keep my eye out for it. We've an ice road downtown that I could make a stake out at.....lol. SOmeone always going in there.....lol.

Also, I just love this pic. The white of the ice really showcases those trees and adds such an appealing texture! So interesting! Great job.

28 Jan, 2009

Thanks GT, didn't know if the camera would pick up the brightness of the ice or not, just got lucky ! Fingers are crossed for the half sunk vehicle pics... ;-) Sounds like something crazy I could have done on the spur of the moment, in my younger days...lol

28 Jan, 2009

ever seen the DVD "Ice Road Truckers" ???? can you imagine taking a huge hopper truck over ice....especially river ice that shifts with the tides??
That's what they have in Moosonee!...an iceroad about two miles long...and someone always went through.... a few skidooers had close calls at freeze up! When the ice went out in the spring they held pools to see who could predict the time ..down to the minute!! Imagine huge icepans flying down river at about 20 mph!

29 Jan, 2009

Yes Lori I have seen that show on TV, those guys have some big cahunas...., or little common sense, or maybe a combination of both...lol. Either way it made for some interesting moments on TV...;-).
