Salvia Chinensis

A rare salvia native to China, grows well in the tropics and is starring now in my garden.

Lovely deep colour. I have a book on Salvias and will be sitting by my PC with it in my hand looking up all your species!

Which Book do you have, I have 2, John Sutton's and Betsy Clebsche's.

Betsy Clebsche. My sister got it for me for Christmas. I don't know the other one. Is it a good one? I have quite a few Salvias but they are just ordinary compared with yours! I do like S.nemerosa and have several cultivars as well as other hardy species. Here in the SW of England, some are hardy when they wouldn't be in the N of the country. Yours certainly would have to go inside for the winter, wouldn't they?

Yes I would think that they would go in for winter but not here, where I live there is no frost. Betsy's book is awesome, I am working my way through that book growing as many as I can get my hands on, I like the nemorosa types, I am about to order a few plant tanzerin, caradonna etc to see how they go, the superba rubin has quite larger flowers than the nemorosas, Robin from the U.K. sent me seeds of Superba 'Dear Anja', just waiting for it to flower, he has the most awesome salvias on his site, inspiring.
