Oh dear - what is wrong with lovely Giorgio, Terry? Do you know?

27 Oct, 2009

Just read this about Giorgio and want you to know that all my thoughts are with you and him hoping for him to make a swift recovery. Cats can sometimes be more resiliant than we realise and it's obvious you are doing everything you can for him. My heart goes out to you. xxx

27 Oct, 2009

Oh you are all so very very kind.

8 year old Giorgio has kidney failure - one has gone completely and his other one is not very good. His abdomen is extremey bloated and he is having daily intravenous drips in the hope that his remaining kidney will function a bit better but he is getting weaker by the hour. We have to force feed him as he won't eat. We are waiting for the results of some further tests he's had.... I feel so impotent and all I want to do all the time is cuddle him. Please pray for him - he means so much to me .....

We are all praying for lovely Giorgio.. . xxx

Oh Terry, I'm so sorry to hear that. Poor little Giorgio...I know when my old girl was very poorly (she had a stroke), she was very comforted by knowing that I was close by her all the time as she was much more settled when she knew I was there with her and that I wasn't going to go out and leave her. And she did recover - amazingly - like Wagger says, they are very resilient. Here's hoping your lovely boy is back to full strength very soon! x x x

27 Oct, 2009

Thanks TT, Sid, Wagger and Panypotter - your words are such a comfort. I know he is in the best possible hands and I HAVE to believe he will recover .. I've been told that rest is probably one of the best remedies for his kidney to regain a reasonable function .... and he has lashings of cuddles and strokes, albeit he's stopped purring now, which is quite upsetting.... can't think straight ... will keep you posted of news ... God bless you all

Lots of prayers and positive thinking for lovely Giorgio xxx

28 Oct, 2009

Thanks TT, perhaps they're slowing working as he's beginning to drink and eat, which is a wonderful step in the right direction and he is a bit more "with it". I don't want to get too excited but he purred for the first time in days last night .... Really glad to see that Conker is perkier and playing with Truffle, albeit the set back with his chemo treatment on Wednesday.

Oh and before I forget - HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Crocus.

30 Oct, 2009

Oh, such good news ! St Francis is watching :o)
Wonderful that Giorgio purred.... and that he is eating and drinking...
Conker and Truffle send lots of good wishes...
Crocus VERY BRAVELY sends a BIG HUG to Giorgio....
and thanks for his birthday wishes. xxx

30 Oct, 2009

:o) St Francis must have appreciated the fact that I've been using an olive root pestle and motar that I bought in Assisi the day I went for Conker, to grind his special low protein food in to be watered down for the syringe .....

Giorgio especially thanks Crocus for his hugs and bravery (I presume 'cos of the birds and cats thingy), altho' no bravery needed in his case, as only Lupa seems to have a "liking" for feathered beings ...

30 Oct, 2009

Hoping Giorgio gets stronger each day. xxx

30 Oct, 2009

So glad to read of the improvement, Terry60, hope it continues. All my best wishes to you.

30 Oct, 2009

Thanks TT and Wagger, your words are a comfort as Giorgio means so much to me

Glad to hear Giorgio is feeling a little bit better now :-)

30 Oct, 2009

Hello all - an update on Giorgio who has had a further serious of tests to see if the cause of his problems is cancer - we have still not had the results yet.....

Although there are quite evident traces of blood when he has a piddle, he does however seem to be getting better and is beginning to take an interest in food and drink and is wobbling around the house a bit more... so I am trying to be positive and hopeful that all will be OK ...

PS TT - how did Crocus' birthday go?? Did he wear his party hat and blow out his candles ? !!

2 Nov, 2009

Ah, I've been looking for the update on Giorgio...
Sounds quite positive, Terry60..
I hope the test results show that the cause of his problems is not too serious...
Good that he is eating, drinking and moving about more...
fingers crossed...

Yes, thanks, Crocus had a wonderful birthday...
cards, presents, music...Lol. xxx

Glad Giorgio is feeling a little brighter Terry :-)

My girl had a bought of cystitis a couple of years ago and that showed a bit of blood in her wee. It's more serious in male cats than females - something to do with the different plumbing - I wonder if it could be that?

Are the vets good in Rome?

2 Nov, 2009

Thanks Sid. Poor Giorgio was very ill with kidney failure and the vet is working very hard with daily intravenous drips to get his remaining damaged kidney to function a little, (to compensate for the one that has packed in). He had a catheter for a few days that may well have caused an inflammation, hence the blood - but they're still doing tests. I'm confident that he will be OK ...

We are very lucky as our current vet seems to be very good - unlike our other one who was hell bent on making money ..... grrr the less said about him the better ....

I'm glad you've found a vet you trust. Do you know why his one kidney packed in in the first place? Give Giorgio a hug from me :-)

2 Nov, 2009

He couldn't wee anymore because some grit had totally blocked his passage. Luckily I hadn't gone into work that day so was able to notice that he kept going into his letter tray - it was touch and go - but it was too late for one kidney - then be ballooned out with abdominal fluid that they aspirated with a long needle ... tests upon tests ...

and the rest you know Sid. Giorgio says thanks for your hugs

Poor puss........... :-(

2 Nov, 2009

It sounds hopeful to me - when my cat, Goldie had kidney failure he stopped eating altogether and just drank and drank so Giorgio eating must be a good sign. Keeping fingers and toes crossed. xxx

Yes, I agree with Wagger :-)

Wagger - my old girl was called Goldie too :-)

2 Nov, 2009

I hope Giorgio keeps getting stronger each day...... xxx

2 Nov, 2009

He didn't look like a Goldie, Sid - we called him Gold Blend 'cos he was coffee coloured - a seal point siamese. Felt a bit stupid calling for Gold Blend at the back door, lol.
