next door's garden

next door's garden

Progress in 3 weeks (despite my husband fracturing his skull and knocking out his front teeth when he had an attack of vertigo as he was walking up some steps!)

Our neighbour has kindly given us the use of a third of his garden (see previous photos). We excavated some paving slabs and yesterday we made this path - which is more functional than the existing ones. We've levelled several mounds - we'd been told that they were "compost" but, in fact, they were piles of rubble! We were able to burn most of the brambles and nettles but still have a heap of "nasty" compost as well as an ever-growing pile of "good " compost.

We plan to use the lower part as a storage area and so we are screening it off. I've high pressure hosed the green house and doused it in Jeyes Fluid. There is still quite a large patch of ground which would make a good veg plot!

That was a terrible fall. I do hope your husband makesa full recovery very quickly.

Thanks - he had his accident 16 days ago and went back to work today. He gets very tired and hasn't his usual stamina. Luckily, his male ego isn't threatened by having his wife wielding axes and pickaxes to clear up this garden. He reckons this is my garden - and it's not as pretty as his and, at the moment, he is quite happy to occupy himself with deadheading the begonias in his garden!
