Thankfully Amy, that's one pest I've never seen in my garden, and pray I never do...! Right now I'm dealing with a new one, called a blister beetle. It wiped out a huge autumn clematis vine, they ate all the leaves and bloom buds, and all the leaves on a clump of fall anemones in less than a week. It's all a part of gardening I guess, there has to be alittle bad, to make the good look even better..lol.

Oh dear..well there's always next year... great light and lovely colour. I just googled blister beetles... and was shocked to find that they can be toxic to animals who might consume them (presumably while eating alfalfa) Like every insect we've ever heard of there are a million different types...but I'd keep my distance if I were you...

All your talk of scary beetles makes me think the continuous invasion of slugs and snails into my garden maybe isn't so bad after all !

I' m glad I didn't do my usual thing Lori, crushing them between my fingers. I read later that if smashed the chemicals in their bodies could cause blistering of the skin. Something just told me not to, that day. Any other time I wouldn't have thought twice about doing it ! Hope we didn't freak you out too bad Terra ! I won't talk about them anymore...at least for a few days...lol

I saw a picture on Wiki of a man with blisters on the back of his neck!!Gross!!! But the weirdest, by far, was the cattle who died from eating the beetles on alfalfa!! Can that be true, do you think?
