Cranberry Hibiscus Flower - Hibiscus acetosella

Cranberry Hibiscus Flower - Hibiscus acetosella

This is one of my favorite hibiscuses which has red to maroon leaves. The leaves are edible and the hips can make tea. Photo taken Jan 4, 2021.

It’s a definite all rounder, Andy! Deep rich velvet tones, plus it’s edible!

Thanks for the comments.

Yes, most parts of this plant are edible.

It definitely does look like a maple-leaf.

Nice texture..velvety. Up here, some Hibiscus have a few blooms. No frost and most every night in the 40-49f range. Days of 60f and next week, mid 60's to low 70's in January in the south bay area.

We were at a redlight, and we notice a home with a banana plant. Not only was it still green leaf,no stress..but a clump of bananas was hanging from it. I would guess dwarf Cavendish? A guess because that and Goldfinger are the only small banana plants sold at nurseries starting June or so.

Stan,

It was 74 degrees here today, next week upper 70’s and low 80’s.

My grandma used to grow big, beautiful bunches of bananas in Hayward (where her house was since 1961). She would spread bags of chicken manure on her banana plants every year in mid-March until she got too old.

I just remember her bananas were so delicious and sweet. She was a pro at growing them.
