Dombeya Flower Merry Christmas

Dombeya Flower Merry Christmas

My Dombeya is just starting to flower. The flower spike should be 5 times as large, but this is in a big pot. Photo taken Christmas Day 2020.

It was a quiet, warm Christmas Day.

Yes, hope you enjoyed a happy Christmas with the family, Andy! This is a beauty. Love the duskiness of the pink flowers.

Very nice flowers, Andy! Your Christmas may have been warm but ours was cold - & wet!

Kate,

The fragrance is like strawberry ice cream, also.

Balcony,

Sorry to hear it’s so cold there. The last few days have been pretty cool here, only in mid-60’s.

You have many unique plants Andy. Are you growing a vanilla orchid or was that at the botanical garden? Is it producing? I now have to find out about Dombeya,

No, I don’t grow orchids. I can grow pretty much anything well here, but I always kill orchids. LoL I do have a Dendrobium kingianum which should be blooming in February. Even the extremely common Epidendrum hybrid orchids which grow in so many people’s yards die for me.

There’s vanilla orchids growing in the Botanical Building (the huge lath-structure) in Balboa Park.

I forgot: Dombeyas are amazing winter-flowering tropical trees. Many species can grow to more than 50 ft.
