This is in the Amaryllidaceae family. Since it can take up to 15 years for the first head of flowers, and this is only 11 years old, it is a good thing the foliage is architectural. It flowers in the fall and then grows all winter, so maybe next year it could get some flowers.

The wavy leaves are a feature of Boophones. The flowers will be like a giant Allium schubertii.

If you know what a Brunsvigia is, the flowers are similar. You have to buy these types of bulbs when they are young because they are really expensive when they are flowering size. I have a young Brunsvigia, but it will be several years before it thinks of putting up some flowers.

These are expensive plants...but nothing really looks like them. UC Berkeley botanical garden has them in their South African garden..stand out.
