My teddies are ready for our village VE Day celebrations tomorrow !

We have a scarecrow theme running through the village tomorrow.
Ours isn't out there yet but will be joined by my teddies!
A neighbour has just put his scarecrow in a tree with a parachute all tangled up !!
Aren't people clever?!! Looking forward to seeing what everyone does in the morning!!

That's really lovely and very cute! We don't tend to 'do' street parties in Scotland...don't know if this has always been the case, and I'm sure there will be some, but I have never seen one in the 33 years I've been here.

Karen it might be to do with Scotland not having the weather at the time these celibrations go off. I know a lot of Scots think its an English thing.
Also a lot of Scots are not big lovers of Royal jubilee s etc my ex use to tell me.

Or perhaps where war celibrations are concerned they might want to forget this man from Scotland in wwii who was a traitor he sided with Hitler .

Lovely Rose, I hope they have had their porridge to keep them going. Have lots of fun while you stay safe. I do not remember any street parties here either but I was only born on 1st May 1944 so might have missed them. I managed to get flour yesterday and will hopefully do some baking from the war time recipes on line.

Checking the web Edinburgh have street partys Karen.

3d these are organised and very expensive tourist attractions and are televised at Hogmanay. Locals are excluded unless they buy a ticket. These are nothing like the spontaneous gathering of neighbours in their own streets like the ones we see in England. We have not lived in Edinburgh for a long time but checking with friends who do none of them are aware of street parties where they live.

Plenty of bunting and flags though..even our neighbours have their saltires on display.

Love these ... well done Chris!

Thank you Scotsgran I find that insulting and sad for locals when locals have to pay a fee after all it is their area and pay their taxs like others and make their area what it is. I suppose like other things its all about the money making through entertainment. In my opinion the locals should have it free .

I hope your friends now do a street party for them selves.

3d. I think the locals enjoy themselves in their own way as always. Living in a tourist attraction has its drawbacks but often there are compensations too. It gives work and businesses have to make lots of money to survive in the main shopping areas. In the summer there is lots of free music from the bands marching along Princes Street every day to the groups from the Edinburgh Festival, The Fringe etc who do pop up scenarios to advertise their shows. It is a fantastic experience to be stopped and asked in a foreign language or broken English how to get to somewhere. I think the Scots are born to be citizens of the World as well as Scots. We cannot complain when we are everywhere with our Caledonian Societies and Burns clubs. Pipe Bands, Highland dancers and sportsmen like the mountain runners, caber and hammer throwers come from every continent to compete in the World Championships and attend smaller Highland Show events around the country. As a people we embrace and encourage that but are aware that large gatherings like an organised Hogmanay party is not to our taste but needs to be micromanaged to safely cope with the large numbers who attend. I hope you had a great day yesterday and do stay safe until we conquer this virus.

Lol yes I know the people up there enjoy their own way as my youngest daughters dad is a Glaswegian his cousins live all around the globe.
Yes I ve watched Edinburgh festival also your other tradtional events you mention.
You missed out your Edinburgh tatoo shame on you lol which I love watching.

Yes we have our traditional events here in England too also we celebrate Lady Godiva also Godiva festival which draws people here we have our Castles Coventry Motofest celebrating our history of making the motor cars also a motor museum and our arts museum but they all free for local people to visit or enter other than the big pop concerts we have here . Most areas in our picturesque villages celebrate their traditions too yes our villages and citys make big money from these events we have our tradtional Morris Dancers too and pop star museums that derive from here .

Yes we have a miltitude of foriegners visiting here that have broken English and speak foreign language visiting and living here we won the number one City of culture last year which included our diversity of foreign people living and visiting our city. I think most of the UK now has many cultures visiting their towns and citys.
