Fire Island Lighthouse

A nice view ,our older light houses are often red & white striped ..

I've check out a few in the UK - they are quite stunning. Not sure why I like them so much. This one has a museum, gift shop & coffee shop, and that tour to the top. Which one is closest to you in the UK?

Southwold , Lowestoft ,also Orfordness which is a very strange place top secret during the war ...they are all not far from us , I've just realized Fire Island is in Southern Suffolk our new home is in Suffolk , Happisburgh Norfolk has a lovely red & white one .. there are several more around the coast ..

Each one unique - no 2 alike. Whatever the big secret was at Orfordness, I guess it worked. We're still here! The lighthouse there is a remarkable structure. Interesting we both live in Suffolk so to speak. North Fork, Long Island has lots of wineries and vineyards. Lots of famous & wealthy people out there (big money). The Hamptons rival Beverly Hills in terms of wealth & opulence. I love going out to Montauk Point for serious deep sea fishing. It's the Eastern tip of Long Island on the South Fork. Great Lighthouse out there as well, but good fishing most of all (sea bass) & you can keep what you catch.

The fishing sounds amazing my late brother use to go sea fishing ,we are lucky to have fresh fish which we can buy from the fishermen's huts and some wonderful smoke houses for smoked fish ,I love smoked prawns ..

I love lighthouses and windmills... always wanted to live in one or the other.

Sounds wonderful Amy - smoked fish! on crackers with a little Brie and ice cold beer. Yum! And you can get it straight from the smoke house. I envy you.

Lori - I've always been fascinated with lighthouses. How each one is different and the invaluable purpose they serve. Good subject matter if you are good at painting.

Won't say I'm good at it, Paul...but I did a painting of one many years ago from a photograph..as I've never personally seen one. This is of American lighthouses on the Great Lakes... you might find it of interest.
