Orquídea Sapatinho (Paphiopedilum Leeanum) (Paphiopedilum Leeanum)

Annually in winter the nearby town called Picada Café has a fair of colonial products, which includes biscuits, breads, sausages, cheeses and flowers grown in the region. Three years ago my husband bought this orchid for me. It was just a flower. With each flowering it has presented more flowers. This year was 4. Photo taken 08/08/2018.

It seems to be very happy where you have it. That is a really nice vase to keep the pot in.

That was very good of your husband! Far better than a bunch of cut flowers that will be dead after a week! This plant will always remind you of the day he gave you it!

Our daughter gave mum an Orchid 2 years ago which flowered well for several weeks. This year it has reflowered & has made two stems. I was pleased it flowered again because this is the first time an Orchid has reflowered for me!

Thank you Wylie.

Thats right Balcony, hubby knows I like flowers growing and birds free not in cages. Thats why after 40y marriage we are finnaly moving to a house with a garden. To enjoy our retirement time with the nature.
I dare to suggest you something that works for me. After the orchid flower falls I use to cut the stalk 10cm from the ground. It encourages new blooms.

Thanks Stan

Thanks for the tip,Aleyna! Though I did cut the first stem back to a healthy bud but it just kept on dying back. The 2nd stem I haven't touched yet.

We also like our birds to be free. We have had them about 3 years now & from the first day we left the cage doors open so they could come & go as they pleased which has resulted in almost wild birds as we can do nothing with them & they flee from us & will never land on us. Perhaps the first few months we should have handled them but didn't.

Hope you are able to enjoy your garden during your retirement! I/we will continue with the balcony as we have no desire to move elsewhere.

Thank you Delonix

Balcony, that a good idea.I will think of building a house among the trees, for the native birds. So they can shelter from the cold and rain. I'm going to install a feeder for the birds. Now we put a board stuck between the branches where I put fruit and bread. It does not last long.
