A nice Mandevilla..very marginal here.

I wouldn't consider it marginal there. I have seen many growing there in the past. I used to have a nice one when I lived in the SF Bay Area.

I tried it once and it died in the winters rains. Its more tropical then the other Mandevilla's sold with the smaller flowers and small smooth leaves.
I notice too Andy? These really go south fast at Home Depot on the usual nursery care. They hate skipped watering's is my guess.
Did you have yours under some eaves?

There was a huge one at the end of Drischoll Rd on Mission Blvd. It was there for years.

If you can find it on google maps...
But nowadays? People cut down everything when they buy a new home.
One largish Rubber tree I posted here? In the same yard with a Ficus benjamina?...they cut the Rubber tree down. For years it was a wild big shrub..when they finally trimmed it into a small tree..it looked really good. Gone now.

That's too bad! I hate to see that happen. People are going for the no maintenance garden, which means virtually no plants. Which is so ugly!

Andy- I spotted my first Mango tree in Hayward. Its on Tennyson near the 880 ramp to Oakland, behind a 6' cinderblock wall. It sticks up about a foot past it. Must be a Manila since that's all they sell up here.
Its going to be hard to take a photo..no stopping. Well,I will have to investigate the ways...

This means there's most likely a lot more out there.

I know what you mean I see so many interesting plants here. Unfortunately, I am unable to take photos. They are usually off the freeway or the sun angle is not favorable.
