The looming black walnut (Juglans) is starting to crowd the red maple

The red maple has foliage so dark and dense that not much will grow beneath it... the walnut is open and airy but it's roots give off juglone which discourages anything from growing beneath it's drip zone...
What a shame Lori but it is a wonderful colour against the lighter green tree
