This plant in a greenhouse would have been making berries 3 years ago by now and be at least 6' tall. Its not half that and is so slow. Looks fine..but slow.

I originally thought it was a shade plant...after years of it growing incredibly slow...I moved it 2 years ago into more sun. Seems to me,even that isn't enough warming. These are a real balance between sun and not burning them with all day sun.

A tricky plant then to satisfy.

It does need some full sun. Morning sun is the best.
Stan, it grows slowly here, also. I think coffee trees grow faster as they get larger. This is my experience.

Many plants seem to do well with morning sun and afternoon shade...especially here when it's roasting hot. LOL!

Yes, it is! LOL!
I'm so glad I have two seedlings that popped up during winter from the seeds from my old coffee tree. They're growing very slowly, which is typical for seedlings.

I moved a potted Adiantum fern that was sitting on the ground in my backyard. OMG as the kids say, Podocarpus roots had grown up into the drainage holes.
Thats "The root" of all my back yard problems. Those 2 tree's just filled that small yard with roots. And wouldnt you know it- gophers wont touch them.
I bet that little coffee plant is doing its best to get water.
I noticed long ago..my backyard will not puddle. You can drop the hose..and no puddles form. As soon as the water go's off...whats left sinks in.

I wouldn't doubt the coffee tree needs more water. Coffee trees need a lot of water to grow well. Coffee trees love acidic soil also. Coffee grounds mixed into the soil is best.
