Hummingbird

Hummingbird

Shivering in the snow. He lives in that tree and sits in that same spot all day long. It is his little porch. We have plenty of juice for them to survive. Snow is already melting . This snow storm was just a short lived anomaly .

Klahanie, I had no idea that humming birds lived in cold countries. I thought they were exotic birds feeding on the nectar of tropical type plants. Sorry for my ignorance, but that's the only way I've ever seen them, on TV.

This is "Anna's" hummingbird. Feverfew. And I agree with you, this tiny hummingbird don't fit in a Christmas snowy scene any more than a Macaw.... but here they are. Some will migrate but lots of them will stay. THE OTHER HUMMINGBIRDS WE HAVE AROUND IN SUMMER SUCH AS Rufous, Calliope, and Black-chinned have enough sense to leave for Mexico and the Gulf Coast by late summer. I think it is only past few decades that we see them here. In the past the most northern sighting were in San Francisco area.
These days when it is brutally cold here I think about them often and hope that they will have some warmer spot to hide. Usually we do not have very cold winters Feverfew, very seldom it dips to 0, mostly anywhere between 5-10 in December and January. But the last few weeks are different. We have minus temperatures (at night) and with the 90% humidity it feels really cold.
I am planning to plant more winter jasmine, viburnum, sweet box, witch hazel, Mahonias and other winter flowering plants for them.
