More Flea Market finds.

Two Laeliocattleya's or Catttleyas. The smaller is Momilani Rainbow..the other Jim? "Purple" I forgot the label. I only remember for sure it said purple flowers.
At $14..no taxes, shipping or handling and I picked from a few.
EBAY and Amazon have not turned out to be as great as I thought with those 3x the cost of the plant shipping charges.
Plus I got in plenty of healthy walking!

Looks like they might need a bit of TLC Stan.

Yes. They had to have been grown in a greenhouse in soucal. The water is so hard it stained even the tough leafed Cattleyas.
For the record Waddy,I have since learned that they are in fact hybrids called Rhyncattleanthe's. Hardy to z10a @30f. I just make that rating.
They are not going to be mounted on tree's..I think Winter patio plants.
They seem to be late fall and into mid winter bloomers. I prefer summer, but I have had Dendrobium nobile 'Comet King' bloom on the porch in January.

Good luck. I shall look forward to future postings of how they get on.

The leaves look like Cattleyas. I had Cattleyas a purple and pure yellow. They lived for 6 years and bloomed, periodically. They were not taken care of too well. I had them outdoors then when they bloomed brought them indoors because of the fragrance.

I wish you the best of luck with them. :>)

Oop. I left them in too much sun. A couple of leafs were scalded.
I have them in more shade now.

Oh no! Yes, they need bright indirect light only. They will burn in the direct sun for sure. They do need bright light to bloom, though.

Yeah- that last hot spell got me Andy. Even a Moth Orchid had a leaf turn white. Those 90's can really be like laser beams even filtered.

Yes, they can be like laser beams. This is why I have on my shade structure I have a vine on top and a branch from the Jacaranda tree above that so everything under does only get very little direct sun...if any at all. Strong diffused light is best.
