Lychee

Lychee

Lychee is starting to bloom. I would love to see it covered in reddish fruit which happens in October.

They are a good looking tree in addition to tasty fruits.
Maybe one day- here, they are very expensive plants to experiment with.

This is beautiful tree Stan, but huge. It needs lots of space and lots of sun.

Great looking tree! Love to see Lychee and Longan trees flowering. I could eat a pound of each a day during their season.

Grafted Lychee trees are very expensive here, also. There's Lychee trees in San Diego that are over 130 years old...still producing fruit. Sometimes the trees bear fruit every other year.

Thank you Delonix1 for your note. I love Lychees too.

Klahanie:

Have you ever tried (Dimocarpus longan) Longan? I think it taste even better than Lychee. They are both in the same family.

No I have not Delonix1. I thought that they taste the same. They are not as easy available up north as lychee. Maybe in a Asian market (which is not close to us)

I think Longan is sweeter. It reminds of natural candy. LOL!

I see a lot of Longan trees around here. I think I see more Longan trees than Lychee trees here in San Diego, even though Lychee trees have been grown much longer in San Diego. Maybe people grow the Lychee trees in their back yard so people don't steal the fruit (I know I would).
