Thanks I always look forward to this one and it never fails to perform :-)
Probably the perfect spot for a clematis Dawn its roots under that white ribes I have and head in the sun all day, the soils really good here too still clay but more diggable than some areas.
Aaaah now Gg this is growing over half of one of my greenhouses on some wire netting for support, don't want it crashing through the roof, I find this quite useful for growing my shade loving seedlings in and of course in the winter it looses its leaves so much lighter in there, the other greenhouse is in full sun so best of both worlds really, it does have a cut back after flowering to keep it in bounds, not everyone would think this a good idea I'm sure but it works for me :-)

I see Kathy, I have 3 that arent doing brilliantly, they are in wet clay though, poor things. Yours is a smasher, envious!

I bought another montana at Harrogate Dawn 'Broughton Star', planted it to grow over a pergola, Robs moaning that the climbers I've got growing there aren't covering it fast enough, that should do the trick lol.

Kathy, WOW ! Very pleasing on the eye. Just make sure it doesn't eat any garden lights or statues. We had one that enveloped a 8 foot high, triple bulb light ... It made such a nice feature we didn't want to cut it off the light. Eventually we forgot the light was there. I had to take drastic action a few months ago, but the triffid is throwing out loads of new shoots and is "OFF AGAIN" :~))

Lol Alan, know what you mean I have another heading up a drainpipe for the roof!!! must sort it after flowering don't want it getting under the tiles, did you cut yours right down?, I'm unsure how drastic I dare cut it.

When it stops raining I will take a photo and post it or maybe a short blog. I had to be pretty drastic as it was all tangled in the lights. It was a similar size to your photo, I cut it back to 4ft off the ground. There was about 6, 1/2" thick stems, that have all got new shoots now. I intend to get it "garden trained" and on some trellis, mounted at the top of our fence.
