Epidendrum radicans orchid

Epidendrum radicans orchid

Epidendrum radicans is native to southern Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and Colombia.
Seems like very vigorous plant. It is in many pots on this property and I have noticed it in other people's gardens as well. The flowers are long lasting and the plants do not seem to be very fussy. They grow on the patio in full sun in pots and the gardener comes once a week and throws some water on them.

I was finally able to find this plant on the internet:
Epidendrum orchid
Owner of this house is orchid aficionado. There are dozens different orchids hanging everywhere. Although, very few are blooming at this moment.

Klahanie:

This is an extremely common orchid here in San Diego. It can grow almost anywhere, from full sun to partial shade. It's available in many colors: white, pink, yellow, gold, fuchsia, red, orange, red-orange, and purple. I have the red-orange and purple colored ones. My neighbor has practically every color growing in the ground.

This orchid produces many off-shoot from the stems.

Thanks Delonix1 for your comment. I have only seen the orange/yellow one and they are plentiful here. It took me quite a bit to find it on the net. Do you grow lots of orchids? Onother orchid is coming out here which looks little bit like my cymbidium back home but smaller version. They are selling them on the street here and I think they are yellow. Will post the picture when it opens.

Klahanie:

No, I don't grow a lot of orchids. I have the common Epidendrum hybrids and a few Phaelanopsis hybrids.

I received my Epidendrum orchids from my neighbor. I really like the gold, pink and white (which I need to get).

Here's some photos of my neighbor's orchids.

Oh, I like the pink and purple ones as well.

Epidendrum, in my opinion is the easiest orchid to grow.
I've always had bad luck growing orchids. I threw out two Catteleya orchids today. One was a purple and the other a rare pure yellow. :>( I think I water them too much.
