It does really well outdoors in the summer.

They love the fresh outdoors! Mine stays outdoor all year. I can't imagine it growing indoors without being infested with bugs (here in San Diego).

White fly is the biggest problem with these indoors. I.morseae was caviare to RSM!

I never get white fly indoors; however, spider mites and scale are the worst bugs here.

You're so lucky you don't have the giant white fly. It's a nightmare!!! They'll cover a huge hibiscus tree with its cottony webbing and millions of white flies.

Sounds nasty!

I'll take a photo of one and you'll really see how nasty they are. I noticed I started getting some on my tropical guava. Sometimes they start their webbing on my banana leaves (underneath them). I just cut the leaves off. There's no known pesticide to control the Mexican giant white fly. Typically, if you want to save a Hibiscus shrub or tree you cut all the branches off to the trunk. The tropical hibiscus comes back very quickly without the white fly.

Sounds nasty!

I've had to leave my Salvia divornum outdoors for a while as it had a touch of RSM. Some cool wet weather seems the best cure for RSM that I know. UK cool that is, not SoCal cool!!!!!

What is RSM? Red Spider Mites?

Spider mites are such a problems here, also (all year!)

Yes. They're a complete pain in the ass!

Yes, tell me about it! Generally, a plant infested with spider mites needs a good dose of systemic pesticide.
Scale is a huge problems here, also.

I even had them outdoors this summer. Thankfully the 3°c greenhouse this winter will put a stop to them for a while.

Here in San Diego we get spider mites indoors and out. It's a huge problem all year.
