He looks very good! (I call it he, because it's a male plant)

I know Delonix ;o), I did a search when I first saw it.
Now I know why my mom's has little plants and mine doesn't.

Well, your mom must have a male and female plants.

No, she only had one plant. We live next door to each other. Could my plant have snuck over to her place while we were sleeping? ;o))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Yes, if there's no others planted around...that's exactly what happened. A female must have the pollen from a male to develop a seed cone.

Bjs:

When there's many thousands growing outdoors, you'll have may cones on the male and female plants. Here in San Diego, CA at the San Diego Zoo they have the second largest Cycad collection in North America (every Genera is represented).

Delonix
From what I remember there are not that many different Cycads compared with some other species of plants,Do they hybridize at all.The largest collection I have seen was on a visit to the island of Maderia some years ago.

There's more Cycads in the world than most people know.

Some of the genera represented at the San Diego Zoo are: Zamia; Cycas; Microcycas; Encepharlartos; Dioon; Microzamia; Bowenia; Stangeria; Lipidozamia; Chigua an Cerotazamia. Some of these genera have almost a hundred species.

You are correct that there's less genera alive today than during the Cretaceous period.
