That looks lovely, I have a dwarf one 'Josie' the scent reminds me of my grandads garden. Also I thought you might be pleased to know I have bought another daylily 'Stafford', I now have a grand total of 2, lol, just a few less than you :))

Not seen this colour leaf before on a Lilac......most unusual.

The name just sprung into my head, where did that come from ??? lol.
Thanks Daylily and Dd it is quite a sight at this time of year with this lovely foliage, always much later than other lilacs to flower, the disappointing thing is I've never noticed a scent, which is the whole point to a lilac?? still the foliage is stunning so suppose thats the sacrifice.
Crikey Daylily I'll have to watch out competition lol, 'Stafford' is one I don't have or your other Bela 'Lugosa' for that matter!!!!, I'm drying out this year I haven't bought any!!, mind you I have swapped a couple with some lovely daylily friends one from a member on here called 'Moose Man' really excited about that one also 'Turkey Lurkey'(which has a scape forming), 'Planet Max' and 'Creature of the Night' .

Its amazing how the names just stay in the memory and those daylilys names sound very interesting :)))

Lol...I am far too late! but it is so gorgeous! Mine is a bit behind, but I love it so much more than the ordinary lilacs. When I looked it up, some people said the scent was 'unpleasant', but I think it smells just like privet, which is not an unpleasant smell, and reminds me of my early childhood in Morton, where all the houses on our street had privet hedges!

Just popped in there Daylily lol.
The daylilies are so late this year I don't have any anywhere near flowering yet another couple of weeks I'd say, looking back last year the first one flowered on the 5th June!!!, one I am so excited about and is flowering for the first time is 'Spacecoast Behavior Pattern' google it its stunning, love the ones with applique throats and it has 3 scapes!!!!
I love this too Karen although I must admit I don't like the scent eeeew, but it looks good long after normal lilacs have done their thing :-)

Exactly! And some lilacs are so moody....not flowering and looking quite ugly....so although it's a real pity this one isn't perfumed...all things considered I would choose it again! I got mine at Glendoick GC in Perthshire, where I have found some of my all time favourite and more unusual plants. nowadays they are going towards the more 'bog standard' stuff, which is a real pity, but I guess that's what sells.

ooh yes nice rich colour, ps. my daylily 'bela' no where near any buds yet, I hope it flowers as it has grown into quite a big clump now, you need to divide them dont you? :)

8 Jun, 2013

lol...if you do have to divide them, Simbad will be going in to business shortly! :))))

I bought mine from a small nursery Bawtry way, can't remember name now!!!, don't you hate that though when its the same bog standard plants surely everyone who's interested in gardening likes the things a bit different, thats why I grow a lot from seed now, although I must say I always manage to find some nice plants at Silica Lodge :-), since my favourite Hall Farm closed :-(
I wouldn't worry too much yet Daylily they're way behind this year ,I don't have any near flowering yet and some haven't sent up scapes yet, you can usually tell when they need splitting they start to flower less so as long as it had lots last year sure it'll be fine, they vary so much some need splitting every 2-3 years others can go 4,5 or even 6 depends on the variety.
Ebay's the place Karen lol, I do sell on there sometimes and swap a few, but yes looking at them this year its getting scary thinking of all the spare plants I'm going to
have soon, I have lots on the allotment (divisions) but can't sell them as I've lost my plan of which is which!!! so have to wait for them to flower then I'll know :-)
