What I can't understand is why we are now getting seagulls in Bracknell. We're 60 miles from the sea!

I'm nowhere near that far from the sea, Andrew, but we only started seeing them last year!!!! Strange, why they are moving further inland!!!!

Thanks everyone.... when I lived in surrey we had loads of seagulls in the fields near where I lived many more than we see down here right by the seafront. I think they go inland more to find food from the farmers fields as you see them following tractors as they plough the fields... don't think they can find so much food at the sea these days....
We have a few large ones that circle round in the morning looking round the gardens... years ago you used to hear loads of gulls at the seaside but now we don't hear many at all.

Maybe the seagulls heard that Andrew was planning a new Seaside Garden feature for his amazing Open Gardens ..
.. Bracknell is the new Brighton ... ;o)

Our local council did have Bracknell Beach, a facility with lots of sand for kids to play in, and potted palm trees in the town centre for a couple of weeks each year. Haven't done it recently because of the cutbacks though

... Cutbacks .. less sand for your Council Tax ..

... but the Council forgot to tell the seagulls ...

How nice to feed the foxes. Bet the gulls are fast at trying to get the food. I put out a couple of spare roast potatoes on the bird table yesterday and within a few minutes there were gulls circling round and coming to eta them, they must be near although maybe they smelt them from the beach...:))
