Orchid

I liked the color of this orchid against the wood fence behind it.

Is it a Cymbidium? I don't know much about orchids but always like seeing them. Is it an easy one to grow or is it one of the more demanding types?

Yes, it is a Cymbidium. It is an easy orchid to grow. I keep mine out spring, summer and fall then bring it in when the bad storms arrive or when I see the flower spikes. I water it every other day in the summer, I have it in full sun. Only once a week in winter (it's in a cold unheated room at the moment but gets full sun), it might need more?. I learned the hard way that if it doesn't get cool nights....no flowers.
Are they expesive there?

They're more expensive than the typical house plant but not too bad. Most of the orchids offered for sale around here are Phalaenopsis. I used to have a few moth orchids but I neglected them during the summer while I was moving and didn't want to bring them back. I don't find orchids difficult to grow but the growing mix dries fast and needs watering too frequently. It wouldn't be a problem if I didn't have 20-30 houseplants and even more plants in the yard to care for. Eventually I'd like to get a large glass case so I can grow a few orchids and some tropical ferns.

I have four Phalaenopsis Orchids, one Vanda, two Dendrobium Orchids, one Cymbidium, one Cattleya, one Jewel Orchid, two Cambria orchids and one Vanilla orchid.
I love Orchids. Need some more....
