Bay trees wrapped up for winter

Bay trees wrapped up for winter

These are in zinc planters which are lined on the inside with some bubble wrap with holes punched through - to help cope with the extremes of winter frost and summer sun.

For their first winter I have also wrapped the pots in fleece, added a fleece cover and finally tied loosely with a potato sack and ribbon. If it gets snowy (maybe I should say when it gets snowy...), I will also add fleece hoods to cover the actual tree itself.
Fingers crossed that they pull through the winter!

I love this, I thought you were ready for Christmas Lol. Thats the trouble with metal planters not much protection. Hope it works for you.

Looks great - I used to have a standard bay (rather large) and I used to decorate it with xmas deccies on the patio.
I'm rather ashamed to say - I neglected it when I moved here and it died!!

Thanks all, I agree - metal planters look great but no protection, if anything the elements are worse!

You have given me a good idea here Sarahm. I had better go on and do this with my own bay tree...Thank you for the idea :-)
