My Hoffmania is growing very well under the tent in the back yard. This plant is native to the tropical rain forest of southern Mexico. Photo taken Oct. 15, 2012.

It grows well in a very shaded position, outside. This plant was thought not to grow outside (all year) in southern California. It does grow much, much better outside than as an indoor plant.

Yes, its soft, velvety leaves are beautiful! The leaves are bright purple on the backside.

DD2:
It doesn't make a good houseplant. It does best in a heated, humid greenhouse.
