O,,O,,O,,what do you feed them with Sandra.

4 Aug, 2012

I have one at the moment just gone red, so hoping rest will follow.

Johnjoe we dont use any feed in the season.....we fill the bed with whatever manure we can get in the autumn cover it all over then dig it in in the spring.

Clarice thats what happened here...waiting for AGES then as soon as one went the others have folllowed. I spent hours this week removing most of the leaves to let the light in they look naked but more sun more ripen. hope yours ripen soon.x

Yum...I love cherry toms (Sweet 100) and mine are just starting to ripen (from the bottom up) too. I like the indeterminate vines...lots of fruiting spurs, and they produce like mad. Plus they're VFN resistant. best thing is~ they are DELICIOUS! Mine are growing outside (didn't put them in the greenhouse, it's too hot)...and have to watch them when it rains because they will split!

we have tried some outside this year Lori they are not looking good...but these are...ildi has got to be the best cropper ever....so many yellow cherrys. but i just love them all. yum yum..

What is "ildi", Sandra?

5 Aug, 2012

ildi is a small yellow one that has 75-100 fruits per truss...they are great for freezing and eating in currys and stews in the winter..even my lot cant eat them all in one go...lol

Pleased to see you have some, at long last.

thanks Dd2. nothing like picking your own.:-)

True we have all of three toms......lol

bet they taste good though...these are OHs toms..mine are in the greenhouse with not many fruit and none looking like ripening...i think im going to have to do some work on the soil. Julian puts soo much in his soil in the autumn. there might be a fight for the chicken poo this autumn..lol

Lol !!

fruiting plants can be sensitive to the soil quality...not talking about poor soil...but soil that has a pH value too high or too low...If your plants are producing lots...just slow in ripening, that's probably the weather..cool and wet...toms like it hot and sunny. They like a phosphorus and potassium rich fert..too.. high nitrogen or magnesium will give you lots of green but fewer fruit. Not sure if any of this will be of help ~ it's just what I can remember. ;-)

im sure that why i dont have many fruit on MY plants Lori. the chicken manure is full of potassium so its mine this year....he he

9 Aug, 2012

yes, it's a cycle. Remember when my mom used to turn the chooks loose in the garden...insect control and fertilizer all in one go!

10 Aug, 2012

i cant let mine out....they wouldnt last long with 3 working terriers...and theres too many foxes. but they do their bit with the manure supply and a few eggs...:-)

10 Aug, 2012

Lots of foxes hereabouts too. wouldn't mind a few chooks but it's one more tie-down if we need to go somewhere for more than one day.

11 Aug, 2012

they are a tether Lori....we are lucky to live in a multi generation house...i'm off to my brothers birthday tonight and mother will lock the chickens up and the boys will sort the dogs out.
