Achillea and roses

That works well not sure it would have occurred to me to try them together,at least not if I was planting it out of flower.

What rose is this B it is a lovely colour with the Achillea.

Yes. I put several plants in last year, and they're doing well. :-) More than I can say for the Heleniums - the snails had a feast with those! :-(((

Do you have to support the Achillea, the pink ones we have are terrible, just sprawl all over the place, shame about your Heleniums, we have had the same problems with our Dahlias, eaten to bits!! makes me so cross.

No, this Achillea behaves pefectly for some reason, unlike the ones in the front bed.

<sigh> Fancy having to think of Heleniums as sort-of annuals! :-O

Yes, and it stays this colour, too! One of my deep pink ones flowered grey-ish this year. :-((

Please let me know. The same plant in the side garden flowered the 'right' colour. Strange, that!

Lovely colour combo Spritz..my Terracotta didnt perform at all this year, altho Moonshine did. However, they tend to go a bit black around the base..is it my lack of care or does it tend to happen to anyone else?

Oh, and talking of combos, my Pat Austin rose goes fabulously with daylily Franz Hals. Regretfully didnt take a picture at its best. It also goes well with a lovely crocosmia which is a really honey gold colour (dont know what its called, had it for years) which unfortunately is not tall..maybe I should swap with Solfatare which has the lovely dark leaves and is tall enough to mix with the rose which is topping 5ft now.

Sounds lovely! I wish you had taken a photo. The only Crocosmia I can get going have been Lucifer, masoniorum amd Babylon. George Davison and Emily McKenzie just refuse to co-operate! Naturally, the 'Montbretia' ones are flourishing and trying a take-over bid. :-(

I will send some "Star of the East" when its finished flowering Spritz, its in the dry spot in front garden, transplanted well to good soil in back, and is growing well in neighbours (now weed-ridden) garden too.

Oh and bye the way, got some Lychnis Vesuvius seeds from somewhere or someone (sorry if its someone Ive forgotten) and they are fantastic! People saw them on my racks in the garden and I ended up selling all bar one (looks a bit bedraggled) which I am planting in the garden! Must get some more next year..if I have the energy!

I didn't manage to harvest any seed from mine. :-( Then the dreaded snails ate them. Bye-bye Lychnis!

Spritz my Chalcedonica has been with me for four or five years. I think once it gets well established the leaves are tougher and the dreaded beasties find something juicier, like my new double echinaceas and my young alstroes..grrrrr!

Yes, I have the scarlet one, as well as one called 'Dusty Pink' and they're perfectly all right - the nasties go for 'Vesuvius' each time I try it, though. I think the leaves are softer.

I think you know I'm trying an Alstro for the very last time - if it goes, that's that. I didn't know they liked Echinaceas!

I really think that you need to protect the young growth for the first 2 years..around March until they are about 6" high. I dont protect the ones I have had in several years because there is so much of it, they cant keep up!!!

My friend put slug pellets round a Dahlia and in the morning, she picked up 27 slugs! :-O
