The Gate House of the Chateau

During the Second World War, Villagers successfully hid a Polish Jew here from the germans, that occupied our Village....

Fascinating to see old buildings with so much history.

If you look to the right Terra, that wall, was almost completely rebuilt, by hand, using original Tuffeau stone, which is the stone for this region, for Houses, barns, walls etc...

Good that such efforts are made to keep everything blending in with the original designs.

The Mayor (Marie) has the say in all matters, and would be on your case very quick, if you didn't keep to tradition...for the Old Buildings...We have new builds too..but everything blends in together...

Well done to Marie ;o)

Funny enough, he greeted us when we first moved here, and we still have the same Marie, nice man, and his trade is a Stone Mason...so he knows all about the old buildings..and gets voted in at election time, very popular man, and has done a lot to lift the status of our Village...Many Villages suffer in the Winter, because too many people have bought the properties as Holiday Homes, and no revenue comes into some Villages outside of the Summer months...here he has strict rules, on who can buy a property as a Holiday Home, therefore keeping the local shops and restaurants etc doing business all year...

Karol Wojtyla (Pope John Paul II for those who do not know) once narrated a story about a Polish Jew whom Wojtyla helped to hide from Germans under the wooden floor. This man after the WW II became a leading communist and prosecuted many Catholics in Poland in fifties. These years became known in Eastern European countries as days of monster trials.
