Thanks Alex, no it's plastic, and the Melon plants grow through the Plastic that's buried into the ground, all done by machine nowadays, but still picked by hand, a real backbreaking job...

Oh.
I ate my first Melon today from hubby's garden and he bought home another. Went and had a look at the veggie patch......I'm going to be eating loads of melons soon, saw a few watermelons too.

ooh nice, what is native to your region, I don't mind a Water Melon, but after a real fleshy Melon, they come a poor second...

Red melons or water melons? Whatever is its English name, it is my most favourite summer meal. Many years ago, when I was around eight, we were in Yugoslavia with parents. Me and my brother we observed local market close to the sea. People were buying vegetables, eggs and melons too. A farmer, selling melons there, he noticed us and offered a big melon to us. We do not have money, we said. Take it, he answered, I know the Russian doesn´t give you money. Take it for free. So we finally had a sweet big water melon on the beach :)))

Nice story Kat, Watermelon is ok, but I prefer a more fleshy Melon, and sweet...I hope with all the rain, that our melons ripen...

Is water melon the red one?

The Water Melon is Red inside Kat....and quite a bit bigger than ours which are a yellowy colour on the outside skin, and pink inside...Don't forget lol, I'm in France, but we can get Watermelon, and the earlier Melon which comes in from Morocco, and North Africa...
