Looks very well grown Pcw!

To be honest it looks like E.bicolor. The leaves of E.comosa are longer and thinner. Also, the crown of leaves on top of the flower stem is not usually as pronounced as this is. No expert, just an observation.

Also, keep an eye on the top of the flower stem as they occasionally produce an aerial bulb here - remove it and place in a small pot on the window sill for the winter. The one that I potted up last autumn has grown into a good sized plant this year.

I have Eucomis Bicolor and they are still a long way behind these, although looking at the leaves of both I think you may be right. If I could remember the name of the place I got them,a strongly worded letter may be in order.
I've just looked up a photo of E.comosa and you are definitley correct.

Lookins at a photo of E.comosa reminded me of why i wanted it.I did germinate seed last year but didn't come back this year.
E.bicolor seeds freely here.In nearby pots and even cracks in the path.

That is a lot of growth in a very short time. A neighbour tried this but he said it was a pineapple plant. It flourished in a pot in a west facing garden near the front door. The flower did smell like pineapple but it did not have fruit. Interesting but it looks like it might attract every slug and snail from miles around.

Scotsgran - the common name is Pineapple Lily. No relation to Pineapple at all..............
Dead easy and pest free, the biggest problem can be from being overly damp.

Thank you Meanie. It is very tropical looking.

Scotsgran - can be hardy, but I just sink the pots for summer and lift them to store in the garage.

It's hardy here although the ones in clay pots go in the gagage for winter. Some in 2ltr plastic pots have survived outside and unprotected for the last couple of winters at least.I have some in a well drained bed that are happy too.

That's good to hear Pcw - I may plant mine deep next year and leave them in the ground then...........
