Essential for a Pimms cocktail....Borage

One of the most photogenic flowers, even without the sunshine or the bees that usually cover it!

Not grown this .. is it easy to grow ?

Very easy indeed TT...it self seeds too! There is also a lovely white version, but I prefer the blue (no surprises there!). Thanks Melchi...it is such a beautiful flower isn't it.

And the rest!!!! Once you've grown this, you'll never be without it. It prances across the garden, self-seeding merrily. It's very easy to pull up, though (a bit prickly/stingy) and I would miss it if it left. And the bees love it!

I didn't know there was a white variety, Karen.

Yes, I grew it a couple of years ago Melchi. It's lovely but I prefer the colour in the blue. The seedlings are very easy to remove as you say.

I had this on my old allotment garden and it grew absolutely enormous. By the end of the summer, it had set seed all over the place and the stems were like tree trunks, so although its lovely I was undecided whether to put one in again!

I know what you mean Rose, but could you really be without it? I mean, what about your Pimms? ;) lol

Never tried it Karen.

Go on then! ;) You can get it ready-mixed in tins in the supermarket Rose if you don't want to buy a whole bottle (yes, I know all the alcohol cheats!) All you need to do is add Borage and a few strawberries and a leaf or two of mint...heavenly! :)

Is it the borage flowers you put in the drink, Karen?

11 Jul, 2012

Yes Rose, the flowers...very pretty and slightly cucumbery flavour. Mint too, and a couple of strawberries :D
