The struggling Wisteria

The struggling Wisteria

Every shoot that is close to the wall is being eaten ... is it slugs and snails? And if so how am I going to control them on a wall. The shoots are pulled into the wholes in the wall where the mortar is missing .... could it be ants?

Oooh, GF...did you put this on as a question? I'm sorry I have no idea what could be eating the wisteria, but it is a bit concerning and your wall looks like it needs repointing quite badly ....is it a house wall or just a garden wall...either way there's lots of space in there for little critters!

KS6, yes I did and everyone said it must be slugs. So I spent a bit of time putting slug pellets in all (well almost all) the holes in the wall and it seems to have worked. Seen a few dead slugs too. Now i bought beer slug traps too. In just a few days there are lots of long healthy shoots growing. Fingers-crossed.

Yes the wall needs pointing badly. its a garden wall and behind it is a public local park. We are planning on re-building the garage that is to the right of the picture (not visible in the picture) and when we do will either have the wall re-pointed or build a second wall/fence in front of it. Waiting for the money pot to fill up at the moment ;)
