If you remember they grow on mountains in the USA are covered in snow in winter so almost dry, are saturated as it melts in spring (they will have lots of stone around there roots so the water runs fast away),in Summer they are baked and become almost dry before Autumn rains feed them up for there winter in the warmth of there Snow covering.
So they stay in the glass house in a sand plunge and remember what I wrote above Nearly Dry in Winter Water in Spring Dry in summer (almost) some water in Autumn.Easy.LOL
