buddleia 120319

buddleia 120319

three weeks on, so far so good ... it's been in the mini-greenhouse except for this pic session - not sure when it'll be old enough to move outdoors - when it's much bigger and the weather's much milder, I suppose.

Looking hopeful :o)

thanks! I'm trying to remember the instructions said don't overwater; think I've only watered it once since I soaked it after potting; usually do that to make sure there's no air pockets. But the humidity and warmth in the green house is enough to condense on the plastic, so hoping that'll help. it's very much find-out-as-you-go-along - or as I go along, anyway

Buddleias are survivors. Unless its there is word of frost I think it could be left outside now? It's looking healthy.

thanks, Ojib. I'll try leaving it out at least during the day for a while, see how that goes.

*s* this is my first real plant - not bought already in a pot - so I want to go carefully till I'm sure it's old enough to go out and play unattended!

I understand how you feel. Buddleias really are tough. They grow in the most odd places, on roofs and walls and in gutters everywhere and it seems to me they must thrive on neglect, because I often see beautiful ’wild' specimens that look much better than my carefully tended one.

I couldn't get much detail on the Buzz; apparently it's so new that the sites I've found either don't list it or have a "let's wait and see" approach.

But the sun's out now, so let's give it a try ...

I got a couple of buddlea 'buzz' varieties from GW special offers last year. Dont worry about them too much Fran, they are tough as old boots. Just put them out during the day and bring in at night for a couple of weeks to harden them off this time. By next year you will be able to just leave them out. Bless!

thanks, Poppy. Thought I noticed something on the photo, so went and had a closer look at the plant - sure enough, it's already got a couple of holes nibbled in a couple of leaves - the plant's starting sustaining local wildlife already!
