Eranthemum pulchellum - Blue Eranthemum, Blue Sage

Eranthemum pulchellum - Blue Eranthemum, Blue Sage (Eranthemum pulchellum - Blue Eranthemum, Blue Sage)

My Blue Eranthemum is close to full bloom now. However, it still has a few flower spikes which haven't bloomed yet. I absolutely love the electric blue flowers on this tropical south Indian native plant. Photo taken Jan. 26, 2012.

Incredible blue..

These blue flowers add such a zing to the garden, I think. A neighbour of mine has vivid blue agapanthus planted next to strong orange canna lilies & the two colours look amazing together. I have blue aggies planted next to bright yellow canna lilies & they are blooming together at the moment & look gorgeous. And blue & red look stunning. Blue is such a wonderful colour in the garden. It just seems to go with everything else. Your blue Eranthemum is lovely.

Meanie:

Thanks! Now, I just need to find a place to put it into the ground. It needs semi-shade, this is why it's by the front door (north-east side of the house).

Well, if I ever get seeds...

I waited two years before I got this plant. It's not a rare plant, I just waited a long time to purchase one.

I can wait a little too then. ;o)

I'm going to keep all my tropical plants in pots from now on.

Alexandramou:

The best time to plant in the ground is after a big freeze. I know when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, after the horrible 1990 freeze, I put a lot of plants into the ground. I knew it was an extremely rare event, which will not happen again in my life time (it most likely will not happen again in many life times).

Thanks! :>)

I love the blue flowers, too. It's too bad my pics don't do the flowers justice.

It better not happen again in my life time! Then again I have a whole front balcony that needs to be filled with plants....just need to put in the railings and the veranda put up (shade structure as you call it). Some glass keeping out the cold and the wind...oh that's what dreams are for....

I have plenty of plants I need to get rid of...

It's fun filling up areas with plants, especially when you have lot of room for them.

You are so lucky we don't live near each other!!! First of all I would drink all your coffee. ;o)

I'm pretty generous about giving my plants away.

I have lots of little coffee plants growing under the mother plant. I may have to dig several out and get them going, just in case my large one dies from the un-diagnosed problem its been experiencing.
