Queen's Tears

Queen's Tears

Close up of my Billbergia nutens. It blooms this time of year here. I planted a lot more in my woods, and the flower stalks are coming up, so the show is just beginning.

Do you know why is it called Queen´s Tears? It must be beautful to have X-mas and these flowers in nearby woods.

It took a little searching, but I found that it's called Queen's Tears because if it gets touched, nectar weeps from the flowers and I'll be going later to see if it's true.

W., can you please show how the plant looks like in full size? I have never seen it before.

Katarina: See my blog "Woodland Gardens". I just wrote it and it contains a couple photos of the plant.
