It's native to northern parts of Australia and the biggest concentration of these trees is here in my particular corner of north-eastern Oz. It's rather an ugly little tree and the blooms only appear in the late afternoon and drop off by the next morning. If you didn't know about them, you might miss them!

Woops, I forgot to add ... except the fruit of the Planchonia is green and a little more egg shaped.

How interesting! The leaves look like those of the Camellia.
