I have seen this growing at Kew but no where near that size. Nice plant...

Alexandramou:

It should grow where you live.

Rbtkew:

Thanks! Yes, it can grow pretty large here.

Yes it should....I'm in zone 10......you're going to get fed up with me and zone 10!!!

Zone 10 climates can still have freezes...don't get too confident! Lol! :) (it's very true, though).

Great plant - even in our climate.

Thanks! :>)

Meanie:

I bet you've never seen one more than 12ft/4m tall, though. :>)

I'm very careful as a general rule. Don't worry Delonix, all my plants will survive the witner, hee hee hee. But there is going to be a lot of experimenting going on.

Two metres is as good as we got!

I'm sure they'll all do very well...just giving you a bad time.

Zone 9 - 11 climates are broadly classified as a subtropical climate. Zone 12 is a tropical climate.

Meanie:

2m is pretty good size for most gardens. Michael Kartuz Iochroma shrubs are gigantic. They were huge mounds with 12ft/4m spreads, also.

These are such stunning plants...

DD - I got mine from Hill House Nursery.

Dottydaisy2:

Yes, they're prolific bloomers, all year. It's also a very quick growing plant.

Meanie I was most impressed with Hill House. Thanks Delonix, might have to try these added to favs.

Dottydaisy2:

Both: Iochroma grandiflora and fuchsioides are very easy to grow.

I have the maroon version. And yes,its big in Hayward..and has been cut back in big freezes.. Still about 15' tall, covered in blooms.
No real care other then water every now and then.

I know this plant does very well up in the Bay Area.
