I miss our chooks, we had too many rats that came and camped out for the food :(

I know, I know...poached eggs on toast...my favourite breakfast! Lulu...you only had to say...I would have sent you an excellent 'ratter' by express postage...can you imagine her, all brown paper and string and a little cute white face going..."show me the rats, show me the rats, show me the rats..I'll ave em, I'll ave em...etc. etc."...ah, she would have been soooo happy, but she's stuck here with us now......so sad.....;)

Lol....

We had 'Mint choc chip chook' she got eaten by the fox. 'Lucky leghorn' who escaped a terrier....but not the fox. 'Cock'a'doodle'doesn't' cos he didn't.. crow! I forget the rest. The rats left when they did!!
But I so want some more chooks! As it's not our place I doubt it would be allowed :( (and David doesn't want a crowing rooster!)

Yes, you do have a point....terrier kills rats....but also eats hens! Fair enough, but she would have been sooooo happy.....(sigh!) ;)

Hows about a squeaky toy rat?!!

Ooooh Barbara...I'm in love...isn't he/she gor-ge-gous...
The markings are out of this world...
Sorry I couldn't get to it yesterday, had Hospital again...will PM you...I must try and get a pic of my little Lulu...I've been watching her more intently lately, she's got such a lovely pom pom tail...but the feathers on her legs get all mucky where she does what chooks do and paddles in water, and then scratches in the dirt....:o)))
I've already told OH that I'm getting more Bantams...Oh lord he says...with a :o))
Lulu we have a Leghorn...long legs I call her...I don't know whether you know this but Chickens will kill rats and mice, I've seen them do it at our old place...and it sent shivers down my spine, it happens so fast, and they all are on it like lightening, and just tear it to pieces...
All our wire previously has been dug into the ground and huge stones put on top, so Foxes and Rats can't dig under...now OH made Panels with Aviary Wire...attached,
and their housing has wooden floors, which are so easy to clean for me...just thought I'd pass that on....

I haven't got a pom pom tail...Lol, sorry, couldn't resist!

We had all that too Crissue!! Ans still the rats came and when they started to eat the stud feed the boss felt the chooks should go. I miss calling them and seeing them come running, I also miss feeding them spaggetti, so funny!!

You always get rats where you have livestock one of the problems of the food being on the floor for the animals etc. We have poison down in rat feeder boxes and seem to be able to keep on top of the problem. After saying that they start to come in from the fields when the crops are taken in as they then have to look for their food and chickens and animal pens are easy pickings if you see what I mean.

I know that chickens catch mice, never seen them tackle a rat, probably they would small rats, but they breed big around here in Lincolnshire. We have a wood around our garden also so they have plenty of hiding places.

I have mine penned in well too Crissue mainly against foxes as we do have a massive problem with them or we have had in the past. Touch wood we are not so troubled at the moment, but now I have said that I bet one comes and visits us. DAMN I should not have said it but eh ho hope the electric fence keeps him/her out.

lol :o)))) Lulu... It's funny you know ours love spagetti, any pasta really, so we always make enough so they get the left overs....:o)))
It's a right pain with the rats...OH last year put Poison pellets down their holes...but this year we're secure all round so fingers crossed...Good you've got the electric fence...all helps...have to look after the little darlings...
