New planting

New planting

I had to get rid of all the compost and plants in the pot, as vine weevils ate the Heuchera that was in there.

I think you are right Meanie. But the front flowers look so long and spikey like my Verbina - uncanny .

B vine weevils are very partial to Heucheras in pots........like the new planting.

I've only had vine weevils this year - in my lily pots 100 yards across from the house. Then the Heuchera died, in the pot by the house wall. I think I might drench the other containers with vine weevil killer.

Yes, that's a Scaevola, with a tender Salvia. :-)

Sorry but I am running late on playing catch up so am trawling back through your pics Spritz. Vine weevil are the worst because they come as white grubs which turn in to beetles. These fly to new situations so it is important to look out for any sign that the plant is suffering. As a Heucheraholic I am well aware that heucheras seem to be the favourite plant of these pests. They can be washed off roots. Dispose of the water carefully as you could just spread them around. At the slightest hint of a plant being in trouble, wilting etc or with holes in the leaves I dig them up. Because mine are in relatively free running soil I can usually shake most of the soil off. Any white grubs get squashed or dropped in to a jar of neat bleach. I examine the roots carefully for the grubs and then replant. Vine weevil drench is only effective at certain temperatures and is very expensive. The plants are not hugely expensive at around £6.00 each but if I needed to replace over 30 of them I would give up.

I'm sure you would. They're nasty little beasties, and this is the first year I've had them in the garden. They were in my lily pots by the greenhouse, and then this Heuchera by the house wall. :-(
