Im ordering some of these cos I know they get tall and the caps would show over some shorter, wider flowers..the orange tigerlily and the lovely two tone pink as well as the yellow...a lovely specimen SBG...and no beetles either!

not a single beetle since I found one in may. It is Lilium lechtlinii often called the leopard lily. Its taller than tiger lilies ut doesnt seem to want to clump up sadly. this bulb now 2 has been in for about 8yrs now.

its lovely! tigerlily reminds me of the rupert bear stories, they had a tigerlily in them.
but i shall look out for the leopard and tiger varieties to put in my jungle.

My Mum used to grow a selection of these, very successfully, but after having 3 pots of lilies stripped by the beetles 5 years ago, I never tried any more. Well..I am getting a little more hard hearted with a few bugs and think I will give them another go. Do lily beetles attack any other plants does anyone know?

I havent had them in my garden before this year! I blame the crown imperials we bought last year.

I hadnt either Sticki, in fact I didnt even know about them which is why I didnt control them to start with..thought they were ladybirds duh! Then I was squeamish about squidging them..but didnt catch on about the black muck which turned out to be larvae until too late!

sneaky aren't they!

lily beetles also attack fritillaries and I know there is another genus but cant think what it is for the life of me.

26 Jul, 2011

Well I dont have fritillaries so thats one problem out of the way...if you think of the other SBG do let me know.

Yes they are sneaky Sticki, but now I know you can get Provado or whatever its called, to spray I feel more like dealing with it and growing lilies again. When I first got them someone said the only way to control was a good old fashioned squelch, which I find hard to do.

Pity I cant find the yellow one anywhere, but the orange will do for now.
