To give you an idea of how tall that lily is, the perfume is amazing too.

Sorry for some reason it had not posted my comments and then it added it twice and before I realised it it had added another one and it will not let me delete any. Thank you for looking at my photos. Do not know whether it is my computer or this site that is the problem. either way it is a pain at the moment.

btw everyone, the window to the right of the aviary was my bedroom for....oooooh.....about three years.....in those days there was nothing here except a holly tree....and the garden was a plain grass field with a few nasty geese and an old greenhouse in it.....changed days!

I have no idea what sex they are Tanjipete, boys girls, anything goes in my aviary, especially when they are freebies a bit like my gardening. lol.

Certainly come on a treat since those days Karen, it's a picture postcard now....:)))

My zebra finches do not breed - think they must be infertile, or all males - lol. I too was passed on the canaries by a man who has since died, we have his doggy too. An old black cocker, named Basil, lol he is lovely - he is just getting used to us all. He is funny though.

The canaries are laying eggs and trying to hatch them but do not know if there is a male amongst them to have made them fertile. lol. suppose time will tell eh!! lol.

They are all lovely, and it is nice to hear them shouting and chirping away. The cockatiel lets me know when the sparrow hawk is around, he shouts his head off. Quite funny really, think he is warning the other birds in the garden that it is around.

Glad yours were good little breeders Tanjipete, shame about the canaries though. You will have to treat yourself to a pair of young ones with the cash you made on the finches.

My hubby would be so envious of you having canaries. We had a large aviary some years ago and had canaries ,zebra finches and some others ( sorry , can't remember) and we went away for a weeks holiday leaving one son in charge. He forgot to lock it up one night and the next day they had all been taken. Hubby was so upset he closed the aviary down and now after extending the building uses it as his train room (oo gage).

The first aviary I had was raided when I was in the house and the girls were at school, well youngest was still at home and I thought the o h was up in there, when I went to say Hi I found the two rogues they had already taken and run off with some of the birds and I never did replace them. I decided to have this aviary nearer the house, it is fairly new to me only about 3 years old. Filled it with some finches and cockatiels and canaries which were given to me. They are lovely canaries sing their little heads off. Brilliant to hear them in the garden. So far no trouble with the local yobs. I know how he felt cause it is heartbreaking when your pets are stolen. The children were so upset too.

What a terrible shame on both counts...why don't people just leave things alone...Sometimes they don't want them either, just don't want others to have...So disappointing, and frightening for the poor birds :o(((

Yes I know but that was a long time ago now so I have gotten over it, we seem to get less trouble these days, things thank goodness seem to have quietened down considerably maybe the yobs have all grown up. Oh just thought about that they could have kids of their own now and it could all come back to bite me in the bum lol. Hopefully not. You have to keep smiling or you would never cope with it all. That is one of the hazzards of living without neighbours, and with an 80 acre wood alongside us it is easy for the idiots to take advantage, but if you worry about it all you would never go out of the house. Hope you are spending plenty of time relaxing and enjoying yourselves and that the weather is good for you in France. Not bad here at the moment, had a storm tonight but nothing much to bother us with really. Had a good day in fact good weekend. Regards - Barbara

Well Barbara we've been getting the long awaited rain...Sad for the French people tho, this is the month for the Holidays...and it's rained every day so far...It's started out bright and sunny this morning, tho how long it will last, who knows...
Having problems with moles at the mo, in my new path, and they've pushed up all through the bark I laid, so i've got that fine mess to clear up this morning...still it could have been worse, they could have come up in the Lawn...
Glad you're gettin on with your Rose Border etc...looking forward to your pics when done...:o))

I have a mole in my garden so far so good not up in the grass area, although that is shrinking all the time. lol. He keeps shoving up the soil around my plants and I keep treading the soil back down, they can be a pain but I love them even though they do dig up my garden. An old gardener once told me to pour bleach down the hole and they would not come anywhere near it. I do not know if it works, would not dare use it in the garden. He was a very old man and they had some funny old ideas, some of which I suppose would work but I personally would not like to use them.

8 Aug, 2011

I just stamp on the ground where they've been and say go away....I need the worms in my Garden...cos that's what their after...I smiled when you said the lawns shrinking...I was having a little nibble at ours, making a better shape (wink wink) OH says don't take anymore will you...No says I, but doesn't that look more rounded...:)) The lawn isn't very big as it is...so it shows if you take some away....Did you see the new Front garden we did, taking away part of the lawn to create nice rounded borders, its our shady spot where we retreat to sit out of the Sun...well I've nibbled a bit more out of that too...:o))
Like you I don't think I would use bleach either, but over here they set traps, as they really can be a nusiance, but I can't do that either...so I just keep telling them to go away...OH says he's used old engine oil before...

8 Aug, 2011

Yes I have seen your round area of grass, it is all looking good Crissue, I cannot kill anything, oh has to do the killing, I am a big softie. I only nurture, he is used to it as he was brought up on a farm. We are all different in many many ways, life would be boring if we were all the same.

8 Aug, 2011

So true...I've dug up little field mice nests, and covered them up again...:o))

9 Aug, 2011

I love to see the field mice running in my garden, lovely colour.:o)
