Now I am green with envy!!

Meanie:

Not sure why you are green with envy. This plant should have started blooming a couple of months ago.

Mine is doing nothing!!

Meanie:

Okay...that's why you're envious! lol! :>)

My plant gets several hours of full sun (and I just moved into more sun). I've never grown this plant indoors, not sure how to get it to bloom there. I think it prefers at least a couple of hours of full sun to bloom and it needs a lot of heat.

I haven't even got one yet!!!!
However, I've found a nursery in Cornwall (where we are for a few days) that has. So I may have one by the end of the week!

Meanie:

Okay! I'm guessing this shrubby vine is not so readily available for sale there?

20 Jun, 2011

To use the vernacular, rare as rocking horse poo!!

20 Jun, 2011

LOL! That's how rare some of the other varieties are here, too.

The only species usually available for sale here are: Allamanda schottii, blanchetii (violacea), cathartica and few other varieties. In S. Florida they have dozens of varieties.

Here's some available in Florida:

I'm familiar with this and A.schotti, but not the others.....
A.straponthus gratus is rather stunning!

20 Jun, 2011

Yes, Strophanthus gratus looks very interesting and very tropical.

I just found out it's available for sale at my friend's nursery (Kartuz's Greenhouses) in northern San Diego County (although he's out of stock now).

Lol. I've just thoroughly enjoyed the banter between you two. Hope you get yours by the end of the week Meanie.
Flower is beautiful too Andy. :o))

Lindalooloo:

Get used to it...it's on-going with Meanie. lol! :>)

He's a good guy, I think! (no, I'm sure he is) lol! :>)

20 Jun, 2011

Lol. :o))

21 Jun, 2011

I'm deffo one of the good guys!
No Allamanda yet, but I've made up for it.....

21 Jun, 2011

Meanie:

I know you are one of the good guys! :>)

Did you buy something more interesting than a Allamanda?

21 Jun, 2011

Equally as interesting, tender and rare, but easier to care for owing to it's size. Photos in a week or so....

Meanie:

Well, now that you've got me intrigued -- What is it?

22 Jun, 2011

I'm enjoying the banter as well Lindalooloo.Meanie, you mention Cornwall,I think I saw large plant of Allamanda carthartica growing in one of the domes at the Eden Project. Have you been there?

25 Jun, 2011

Delonix - it's almost ready to be unveiled, maybe two or three days.....

Rbtkew - do you mean this one.......

Almost a case of being a victim of their own success!

25 Jun, 2011

Meanie - yes, thats the one! We had the same rampant growth in the Princess of Wales Conservatory; at one point it came through the roof and was growing outside.

26 Jun, 2011

That's why I've given up on the idea for the moment - it would love my conservatory.

26 Jun, 2011

Meanie:

I look forward to the unveiling of the new plant! :>)

26 Jun, 2011

It's just a little fun with Stickitoffee! Quite rare over here (certainly difficult to track down), but I'm sure that you'll have seen a few.

27 Jun, 2011

Meanie:

What's the name of the plant?

27 Jun, 2011

Lobelia laxiflora - a real peach of a plant!

27 Jun, 2011

I've seen this plant before. San Marcos Growers in Santa Barbara supplies this plant to nurseries throughout CA.

28 Jun, 2011

It's now one reasonably sized plant and two divisions. It has been a good week - the flowers have started to open on the Lobelia, and I've found two new flower stems on my Tacca chantrieri!

29 Jun, 2011

Great news! :>)
